Spring is a great time to enjoy the outdoors with your dog, but it also brings some challenges. Here are some recommendations for caring for your dog during this season:
1. Beware of Allergies
Spring brings pollen and other allergens that can affect dogs. If you notice excessive scratching, watery eyes, or sneezing, consult your veterinarian.
2. Flea and Tick Protection
Warm weather encourages the proliferation of parasites. Make sure your dog is up-to-date on their flea and tick treatment.
3. Hydration and Shade
As the temperature rises, your dog will need more water. Always bring fresh water with you when you go outside and avoid walks during the hottest hours.
4. Regular Brushing
If your dog has a thick coat and tends to shed more in spring, brush them several times a week to prevent matting and reduce the amount of hair in your home.
5. Beware of Toxic Plants
Some spring flowers and plants, such as lilies and tulips, are toxic to dogs. Make sure your garden is safe for them.
6. Moderate Physical Activity
Take advantage of the good weather to go for a walk or play in the park, but remember that some breeds, such as French and English bulldogs and pugs, can overheat easily, so avoid intense exercise on very hot days.
