5 tips for bathing your dog when it's cold

With the arrival of cold weather and the drop in temperatures, our furry friends need special care, and bathing is one of them. Many owners wonder if they can bathe their best friend when it's cold and the answer is yes.

Bathing is a very important activity in dog hygiene, and even if the temperatures drop, it is important to wash our little friend with soap and water in a comfortable way.

In this article we give you some tips to bathe your dog correctly when it's cold!

Short and spaced baths

The first thing to keep in mind is that in the winter period it is not necessary to bathe our dog so frequently and, in addition, baths should be short to prevent it from suffering from any condition.

Regulate the ambient temperature

Whenever possible, it is important to bathe your friend inside the house, as this will prevent it from receiving drafts that can affect its health. Also, making the bathing area warm a little before, during and after washing will help your dog feel more comfortable and the bath will be more pleasant.

Use warm water

Avoid cold water, as it can be harmful to our furry friends. It is advisable to warm the water a little before bathing your dog, this way he will enjoy the bath and will not get cold, but be careful not to burn him!

The perfect temperature for your dog is the same as for you, so try to regulate it until it is warm and oscillates between 37º and 38º.

Dry him with towels

Once you have finished bathing your dog, let him shake himself off and cover him in a warm towel for a few minutes. This way, you will remove excess water and prevent the head, chest and neck area from getting wet.

You can also use a hair dryer to dry your dog completely, but be careful not to use too hot air as this can burn the skin. This will help prevent health problems such as pneumonia or the appearance of fungus due to humidity.

Avoid bathing at night

In general, it is best to bathe your dog early in the morning so that he dries before nightfall. It is also preferable to do it on sunny days, so that he will not feel so cold after the shower!
